Sophie Layton is a London based artist with a boundless curiosity for technique that sparks a tangible energy in her work. After graduating from Brighton University in 2009 with a Fine Art Printmaking degree, she was awarded a residency at London Metropolitan University and later at the Scuola di Graphica in Venice. Working mainly in monoprint, Sophie enjoys combining other printmaking techniques such as photo etching to challenge and contrast the painterly nature of monoprinting. She has recently returned from a residency in Japan where she studied Moku Hanga, Japanese Woodblock Printmaking. Her dynamic artworks have been exhibited internationally in such places as China, Italy and London.
“I love the physical and intellectual process of printmaking; the way results build up and ideas emerge onto paper, demanding constant decision-making.”
